The Park and Recreation board’s decision to cancel this year’s event comes as nearly all large-scale, highly attended events of its kind around the U.S. have been cancelled; including local events such as The Kennett Square Mushroom Festival; Chadds Ford Days; Warwick Fall Festival at Warwick County Park; and others.
Park and Recreation board chairperson, Monica Strauser said, “The extended shutdown in Pennsylvania negatively impacted a lot of our local businesses, who help to sponsor our event. We felt it wouldn’t be fair for us to ask for sponsor money from these friends in the community. Additionally, health and safety guidelines would have impacted the types of events we could have offered; cancelling a lot of the activities. Although it was difficult, we came to the decision out of an abundance of caution for everyone’s health and safety—to just come back even stronger next year.”
The Parks and Recreation board is exploring smaller COVID-19 friendly event ideas and will keep the public updated via the Township’s website: www.eastfallowfield.org. “We know that Park Day is a time-honored community tradition that many look forward to each year, and we thank our residents, community members, and past sponsors for their patience and understanding,” concluded Strauser.
