The East Fallowfield Township Road Department has many duties to perform in our rapidly growing township. Currently we have 46 miles of paved township roads. The duties that we perform are very diverse, from snow removal to leaf pickup to sign repair to paving and drainage work. We maintain all township owned buildings and property. We maintain and service all trucks and equipment as well as the townships police cars. We are also responsible for keeping 46 miles of right-of-way mowed, keeping brush cut back and trees and other obstacles out of the traveling roadways. We are constantly trying to upgrade our equipment and keep up with new technology.
The Road Department also maintains the East Fallowfield Community Park, mowing about 50 acres of lawn. We have done a lot of improvements to the park land in the last few years. The road crew is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and can be called out on any given day due to accidents, weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances which may also change the direction of our daily tasks or bring the crew out after hours in response to emergencies.
During winter months, the township contracts snow removal on the 13 miles of state roads that are in our township. With our ever growing township there are about 60 miles of plowing, salting, etc. We use about 300 ton of salt per year and 300 ton of anti-skid material.
