Township Pond Update – No Fishing Until Further Notice East Fallowfield Township has been working with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) regarding recent reports of a surface sheen, odors, and dead fish at the Township pond.
DEP conducted an on-site investigation this morning and found no evidence of contamination or pollution. According to DEP, the fish kill was most likely caused by very low dissolved oxygen levels resulting from last week's prolonged period of extreme heat. The surface sheen observed on the pond was determined to be biological in nature, not petroleum-based.
To help protect the health of the pond while it recovers, the Township has posted "No Fishing" signs around the pond. Please refrain from fishing until further notice.
The Township is actively evaluating options to improve the long-term health of the pond and is working with the Township Engineer to evaluate potential solutions.
