A herbicide application on the lawn-to-meadow area at the Township Community Park is expected to take place on Wednesday, November 4 (rain date: November 9).
What is the Lawn to Meadow program?
The Township is carrying out a Lawn-to-Meadow conversion project at the Community Park, 900 Buck Run Road, with the help of the Chester County Planning Commission’s Lawn-to-Meadow Program.
The project converts approximately 1.1 acres of existing lawn into a native meadow, creating additional habitat for pollinators and other wildlife while reducing the need for regular mowing. It is funded through a Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grant. LandStudies, Inc. has been selected by the Chester County Planning Commission as the contractor for the project.
What will be happening next?
Second herbicide application: November 4, 2026 (rain date: November 9, 2026)
Meadow seeding: November 2026
Meadow establishment: The native vegetation will take time to establish, with the meadow expected to become more visibly established during the summer of 2027
Why is herbicide being used?
The herbicide applications are part of the meadow establishment process. They remove the existing lawn vegetation before the native meadow seed is planted. Additional signage will also be posted during the herbicide applications; residents should stay off the treated area as directed. The project area has been roped off, and a “Meadow is in the Making” sign installed to let park visitors know about the project.
We look forward to watching this new meadow take shape over the coming seasons!
