Riparian Buffer Project To Kickoff at East Fallowfield Township Community Park

In partnership with Stroud Water Research, East Fallowfield Township is kicking off an important environmental project to restore a segment of riparian buffers overrun by brush and invasive species in the township park (closest to the intersection of Strasburg Road and Due Run Road).  Riparian buffers are the trees and vegetation along our waterways that reduce erosion and improve water quality by filtering runoff. As part of the project, a 35 foot perimeter around the stream (in the wooded area near Strasburg Road and Doe Run at the township park) will be cleared of brush and invasive species.  After the brush is cleared, the Township will be planting hundreds of native trees in the early spring in the areas adjacent to the stream.   The newly planted trees will be encased in protective planting sleeves to discourage damage by wildlife and other threats to early development.

The riparian buffer project will begin on Monday, February 10 and will continue through the spring.

This project is being funded by a DCNR grant and Stroud Water Research Center is managing the project for the township. The newly planted trees will be maintained by Stroud Water Research for a period of three years.

EAST FALLOWFIELD TOWNSHIP SEEKS PART TIME ROAD CREW LABORER APPLICANTS

East Fallowfield Township is looking for a part time laborer to work in the roads department.  The position will have flexible part time hours.  Part time employees must work less than 120 hours per month.  The person hired for this role will be responsible for manual labor related to the maintenance and repair of East Fallowfield Township roads, parks, and other property.  Performing manual labor during severe and/or inclement weather conditions is a must.  Must possess a valid, current class "C" driver license.  The starting rate is $25.22 per hour.
